Economic analysis of cost-based load shifting implementation on large utility systems using battery energy storage system

Advances in energy storage technology have allowed the application of load shifting utility grid for a more efficient power system operation. However, economy Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is not linear to cost reduction obtained from excluding costly generators. This paper presents economic analysis cost-based implementation and an approach determine generation units be deactivated replaced by BESS on three large-scale grids Indonesia: Sumbagut, Sumbagteng, Sumbagsel systems. The feasibility evaluated using Net Present Value (NPV), considering savings investment cost. result shows that proposed robust than conventional methods, such as removing most expensive units, with highest reduction, best return contribution, or maximum number can replaced.
